Rugs

The earliest known flooring is the humble rug, and an example still exists that dates back to 8,000 BC. The growing interest in wood, marble and terracotta flooring is creating a new demand for rugs.

Area rugs offer homeowners a way of adding more character, charm and colour to any room. They are also a cheaper way of changing the look of the room without changing the entire floor covering. Whether traditional hand knotted, hand-tufted or the modern machine made variety, a rug will set off any interior. Rugs are now being made using materials such as furniture fabrics, natural fibres, silk and even bamboo grasses. Manufacturers of contemporary rugs are also using combinations of many different types of materials and different twist levels of the yarns to create dramatically different looks. Different degrees of twisted yarns may be inserted into rugs to give a more textural appearance. Loops with cut piles, bold patterns and silk highlights are also being used to add boldness accent to contemporary rugs. Traditional rugs with their European and Mid-East origins are also extremely popular today among homeowners.
