Getting Estimates for Carpet Fitting
In order to give you an accurate estimate for fitting your new carpet, a carpet company should ideally visit your home in order to measure the room, assess any potential issues or problems and calculate the time it will take to lay the carpet.
Any quote provided should include the cost of removing excess carpet and underlay, along with any extra work they might need to carry out, such as easing doors and fixing door plates. They should also provide you with advice on appropriate carpet underlay or stair pads. Make sure that they're going to follow the fixing method recommended by the carpet manufacturer - this might be stick down, tacked down or tackless.
Beware of offers such as free fitting or free underlay when buying a carpet, and keep in mind the total cost of the job. Some companies try to tempt customers in with these 'special' offers, only to raise the cost of the carpet.
