Choosing the Right Carpet Style

Patterned Carpets

Whilst the garish patterned carpets that enjoyed popularity in the 1970s may have put many people off the idea of this style, modern designers have introduced new, subtle versions, featuring motifs such as delicate sprigs of flowers.

Small scale patterns add an overall texture to your room, whilst mid-scale patterns provide a degree of visual interest. Large dominant patterns can act as a focal point for the room, although they should not be used in small rooms, as they can make them look even smaller and appear cluttered.

Plain Carpets

Plain carpets can offer greater opportunities when designing a room, as they blend easily with a wide range of colour schemes. Do beware however that a plain carpets can make a large room look uninteresting and empty.

Berbers

Berber carpets usually contain small flecks of dark colour on lighter shades of neutral colours, and offers a great mix of a hand spun, natural appearance with great dirt hiding qualities.

Tonal Carpets

Tonal carpets are created by incorporating different shades of the same colour yarn in a random pattern or specific design. This not only adds a subtle texture to the carpet, but also means that it's great for hiding dirt.

Heather and Tweed

Heather and Tweed carpets are produced by spinning the yarn with different colour fibres to create a mottled appearance, and are available in styles such as twist pile, velour, velvet, and many loop pile styles.
